Made from a special blend of virgin copolymer plastic, SafTfence brand birch branch is tough, durable and flexible yet able to hold it’s memory, going back to its original position when brushed through, will not break or create dangerous shards when bent or crushed. Presently, the birch comes in highly UV resistant black, although special color requests can be accommodated, such as green or brown. The sprig is about 24” or 29 inches tall with a 3/4” inch long standard half inch thread. The spread of the twig can be conformed to 8.5 inches (21.58cm) or narrower during the manufacturing cycle, depending on customer specifications and firmness needs of branch. The SafTfence brand birch branch can be made stiffer using different blends of copolymer should a request be made to conform to a tighter firmness of the hedge. A product of Fornells, France, the birch sprig is made from a patented manufacturing process, Fornells birch is PVC extruded and hot formed as a rounded top, making it safe for horse and rider alike. The birch can be individually sold as a sprig or formed in polyurethane rot proof foam block as shown above. It too holds it memory and provides the horse a safe cushion of thick plastic should he land into it. Fornells birch has been raced over in France for over five years and and schooled over in the United Kingdom for as long. Fornells birch was raced over for the first time in the United States at the Queen’s Cup Steeplechase in 2009. Introduced in the cross country race at Cheltenham, Fornells birch sprigs and blocks are the first artificial birch to be raced over in England and has been used in the cross country phase of a number of three-day events throughout Europe and the U.K. Birch is available as loose material or in one meter blocks, 5” or 7” deep.
